The Burj Dubai
June 21st 2006 06:32
Behold...the race to go "vertical" has seen its new competitor. It seems that the world is learning at a faster pace that developing across land is wasting valuable space that could be used for something better, and Dubai is no short of working on its own building that is set to break new records.
The Burj Dubai has already begun construction, and as of June 20, 2006, it is at 50 stories of the total 160 it claims to reach. It is expected to be completed in 2008, at a height of 624 m to the top floor and 630 m to the roof. The building will feature an Armani hotel, approximately 700 private apartments on 64 floors and corporate offices.
The real challenge lies in networking the entire structure with cabling, television and telephone networks, not to mention water supply up to a 0.5 kms above the ground!
Did I also mention that it will also feature the world's fastest elevator? At 18m/s, you better be hanging onto your bag real tight!
