World Buildings - July 2006

The Bishops Gate Tower, London

July 23rd 2006 23:19

At 307 m, the proposed Bishops Gate Tower in London will be the brother of the Shard Glass, at nearby London Bridge, which will be Europe's tallest at 310 m. It is set to have about 60 floors. The first three floors of the building will be publicly accessible, and a restaurant on the 43rd floor would be London's highest public vantage point. Offices will be spread across 52 floors, with levels 3 to 9 encompassing financial trading floors. The eco-friendly, 'snake-skin' design is intended to maxmise the use of natural light and reduce the dependence on electric lighting.

London's bridge won't be falling down by the looks of such developments!

The Chicago Aqua

July 14th 2006 23:17

Chicago has decided to add a "wavy" element to its recent development, aptly called the Chicago Aqua. Part of the Lakeshire East complex, this $300 million seemingly watery building will have 83 floors at a height of 253 m and will feature hotel and residential high-rises with retail and commercial spaces. It is said that architech Jeanne Gang and his marketing people agreed on the fluid design of the building to go with its lakefront view. The bumps in the building will also be tweaked to provide appropriate sun-shading and to accomodate living patterns.

The building has been tagged to be the most sensuous, curvaceous skyscraper yet. With a design like this, Chicago is truly set to spark a few more ideas across the world!

The Vision Tower, Brisbane

July 9th 2006 07:42

Brisbane seems to be joining the race to building its own tower, aptly titled the "Vision Tower". Expected to stand at 246 m, the 80 storey tower would be Brisbane's largest tower to date upon completion in 2008. It will have a mixture of retail, commercial and a two storey observation deck, which will further encompass a 5-star restaurant and an art gallery.

Probably one of the largest projects to be taken in India in recent times, the Lanco Group have set out plan to redevelop none other than the booming city of Hyderabad. The mega tecno-resitdential township of 18 million sq ft will spread across a 100 acre site with an investment outlay of nearly Rs. 36 billion!

A 90 storey tower, 16 X 30 storey towers, 12 X 20 storey towers, IT Parks, Megamall, 2 hotels (a 5 star and a 4 star)....are just some of the ideas are are expected to cover the new development area.

The project, expected to me completed in 3 years, would spawn a larger capacity in the Hitec City area where many international companies such as Microsoft have setup their headquarters.

If this development were to be completed successfully, it could probably surpass Bangalore's IT infrastructure and possibly match Mumbai and New Delhi, bringing the talent pool into the limelight!
